Who Should Attend?
This course is aimed at people in the workplace or general community who wish to gain resuscitation skills for their workplace or personal benefit.
Students must be over 14 years of age or have written parental/guardian consent to attend.
Course Outcomes
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. People completing this course are able to carry out Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The skill and knowledge described here relate specifically to performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and do NOT address other aspects of resuscitation, life support or first aid.

Performance Criteria
- Identify hazards to health and safety of self and others
- Minimise immediate risk to health and safety of self, casualty and others by isolating and hazard(s)
- Approach the casualty in a calm, culturally aware, sensitive and respectful manner
- Assess vital signs of casualty
- Recognise the need for CPR
- Perform CPR in line with ARC Guidelines
- Seek assistance from others and/or ambulance support as appropriate
- Request ambulance support or appropriate medical assistance and/or ambulance support using available means of communication
- Accurately convey details of casualty's condition and CPR procedures performed to emergency services/relieving personnel
- Calmly provide information to reassure casualty, adopting a communication style to match the casualty's level of consciousness
- Provide reports, where applicable, in a timely manner, presenting all relevant facts relating to performing CPR according to established procedures
Assessment and Award
Participants who demonstrate competency by passing both the theory and practical assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment ‘Perform CPR - Unit Code HLTCPR201A ’ issued by the ACH&S that is valid for 1 year in line with ARC guidelines. This course relates to the Health Training Package.
