Who Should Attend?
All levels of management, particularly those with roles and responsibilities in the area of hazard identification and control including supervisors/frontline managers, managers, OH&S personnel, engineering staff, safety committee members, and safety representatives and any other individuals responsible for the safety at a workplace.
Purpose
This course is designed to provide participants with an overview of the methods used to identify, assess and control hazards at the workplace to the level required to satisfy legislative and moral requirements for ensuring health and safety at a workplace.
Entry Requirements
There are no restrictions on entry to this course, however, participants are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction for:
- Referencing and understanding legislation, standards and codes of practice
- Documenting workplace health and safety hazard reports
- Consulting with workers, employers at the level required for risk management
Course Outcomes
This course is designed to enable participants to have the skills and competencies to:
- Apply the statutory and minimum workplace health and safety requirements and principles for risk management
- Understand the requirements of the Risk Management Advisory Standard
- Explain and understand the difference between the terms ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’
- Identify workplace hazards, both current and potential
- Assess the hazard (risk assessment) to determine the likelihood of harm occurring
- Identify appropriate controls for hazards in accordance with the ‘hierarchy of control’
- Assist management select and implement the best controls
- Review and monitor applied control measures
- Consider the requirements of Australian Standard 4360
- Develop a risk management register
