Who Should Attend?
This course is aimed at people who work, or wish to work, as Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator at a workplace in accordance with the provisions of the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. An employer meets the criteria for being required to appoint a rehabilitation and return to work coordinator if -
(a) for an employer who employs workers at a workplace in a high risk industry - the wages of the employer in Queensland for the preceding financial year were more than $1.63m; or
(b) otherwise - the wages of the employer in Queensland for the preceding financial year were more than $4.9m.
Entry Requirements
There are no restrictions on entry to this course however persons are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction for:
- Referencing and understanding legislation and guidance material
- Assisting persons involved with the workers’ rehabilitation
Prerequisite self-paced modules that must be completed prior to commencement of the face-to-face course are:
- WPR 101
- WPR 102
- WPR 104A

Course Outcomes
This course is designed to provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to:
- Assist the employer to discharge legislative obligations as outlined in the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003, including any amendments and applying a working knowledge of this legislation
- Coordinate the return to work of an injured worker recognising current workplace rehabilitation best practice guidelines
- Coordinate the development of a policy, procedures and appendices, to manage workplace rehabilitation at their own workplace
- Raise the awareness of other members of the workforce (supervisors, managers, workers) regarding workplace rehabilitation
- Identify the practical steps and administrative (paper work) procedures required following the injury of a worker and throughout their rehabilitation
- Identify the role of key persons involved in the rehabilitation process
- Communicate with workers, management, treating medical practitioners, workers compensation insurers’ staff and other key persons’ involved in the workplace rehabilitation process
- Establish a plan (or work with an external provider to establish a plan) which meets the needs of an injured worker.
