Who Should Attend?
This course is aimed at people who work, or wish to work, as Workplace Health and Safety Officers at a workplace or construction workplace in accordance with the provisions of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995. Organisations with 30 or more workers are required to appoint a Workplace Health & Safety Officer.
The course is also suitable for Supervisors and Managers as they have a responsibility for workers and are required to understand the requirements of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995.
This course is also suitable for workers who have been elected as Safety Representatives for their workplace.
Entry Requirements
There are no restrictions on entry to this course however participants are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction for:
- Referencing and understanding legislation, standards and codes of practice
- Assisting Qld State Government health and safety officials
- Preparing workplace health and safety reports
- Establishing appropriate educational programs
- Investigating work injuries, work caused illnesses and dangerous events
- Consulting with workers, employers and statutory health and safety officials
This course is a prerequisite for WHSO/04 (Construction), WHSO/05 (Industrial) and WHSO/06 (Service)
Course Outcomes
This course is designed to enable participants to have the skills and competencies to:
- Satisfy the requirements to qualify as a Workplace Health and Safety Officer
- Tell employers and principal contractors about the overall state of health and safety at the workplace
- Conduct inspections to hazards and unsafe or unsatisfactory health and safety conditions and report these to the employer
- Establish appropriate educational programs
- Help inspectors in the performance of the inspectors duties
- Report any injury, worked caused illness, event or risk to the employer or principal contractor.
