Who should attend:
This course is aimed at people who work, or wish to work, as professional Safety Officers at a workplace
Workers with these qualifications would include OHS Practitioners, OHS Supervisors and Managers at both middle and senior management levels.
Descriptor:
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who coordinate and maintain the OHS program within an organisation. Individuals would possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate their own work and the work of others with safety responsibilities.
Entry Requirements:
There are no restrictions on entry to this course however participants are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction for:
- Referencing and understanding legislation, standards and codes of practice
- Assisting Government health and safety officials
- Preparing workplace health and safety reports
- Establishing appropriate educational programs
- Investigating work injuries, work caused illnesses and dangerous events
- Consulting with workers, employers and statutory health and safety officials
Participants will also need access to a workplace to enable completion of learning and assessment activities.
Entry Requirements - Online Students:
As part of our ongoing commitment to Quality Assurance, All Participants wishing to undertake online studies with ACHS are required to complete a session with our Training Technician/Tutor in our Elluminate Virtual Office. (Elluminate is a free service - no additional fees payable)
The session will take place upon submission of the first assessment. To participate in this session, participants will need to have access to a webcam.
Participants who do not have access to a Webcam should contact the college to make alternate arrangements.

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:
- BSBOHS41407 Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety or other relevent qualification/s OR
- With extensive vocational experience in providing guidance to others in matters relating to Occupational Health and Safety but without formal OHS qualifications:
Examples of indicative job roles for candidates seeking entry based upon their vocational experience include:
- Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator
- Occupational Health and Safety Officer
This breadth of expertise would equate to the competencies required to undertake this qualification.
