TEAM ACHS

Who needs Bathurst? What’s INDY?  The countdown has begun to the 2009 Royal Flying Doctors Outback Trek to raise money for the Queensland Royal Flying Doctor Service. Our 1971 LC Torana is undergoing a full overhaul in the ACHS ‘pit garage’, and everything is running to plan.

The Trek’s starting point is at Grafton in northern NSW on the 3rd June, travelling via the Gulf of Carpentaria to finish in Darwin on the 12th June covering approx 5000km.

Team ACHS has been announced with Richard Morgan piloting the vehicle, with Bryn Maidment co-piloting.

ACHS would like to thank the company’s that have already started to support us; Mack and Volvo Trucks, Australian Amalgamated Terminals (AAT) at Fisherman’s Island, and Goodyear Auto Care at Cleveland for all the mechanics.

If you would be interested in sponsoring our vehicle, or making a small donation please contact Richard Morgan. If you would like further information about the RFDS Outback trek you can visit their website www.outbackcartrek.com.au

LOGOV  Expo

Queensland's Largest Civil Engineering and Local Government Market, LOGOV, was held at Meakin Park in Logan City on the 8-9 October. Over 5,000 visitors and buyers from Federal, State and Local Government Bodies, Contractors, Consultants and the general public, with some 315 outdoor sites and 41 pavilion booths where provided for 240 exhibitors, it was an extremely busy time for us.

We had a overwhelming  response from all,  and feedback has been very positive with the Australasian College of Health & Safety the only exhibitor promoting health & safety training and services.

Thank you to our all of our staff that helped with setup and attended this exhibition.  A special thank you to Warren Dick and Alan Bailey for all their help iin making things run smoothly.

Our Year Ahead

The year 2008 will offer many challenges and opportunities for OHS training, as well as other exciting ventures. Alan Bailey and Norm Osmand will be walking the Kokoda Trail in May.

Richard Morgan has the task of seeing our 1971 Holden Torana restored and ready for entry in the Royal Flying Doctors Variety Bash in 2009.

We hope to have a bit of fun and will seek sponsorship for these ventures at the appropriate time in support of the Royal Flying Doctors - Queensland.  To make a donation, please complete the donation form and post, fax or email to the College.

Kokoda

“Flying doctors feel fuel price pinch” (ABC News 17/6/08).”Fund raising manager Russell Ousley says the RFDS has been forced to dip into savings normally set aside to buy new planes to help offset its rising fuel bill”.

I would like to think the college and our clients were able to help this organisation that does a great job for the safety of people throughout Queensland.

I recently experienced first hand the efforts of an emergency evacuation. As many of you are aware Alan Bailey (ACHS Trainer, also known as “the legend”) and I were in serious training for our assault on the Kokoda Trail and with the intent of seeking donations for the RFDS. Unfortunately, on the second day (and before our newsletter seeking your donations was delivered – hence withdrawn) I had the misfortune of doing serious damage to my left knee and consequently the need for evacuation from the jungle by chopper.

Kokoda TrailWhilst evacuation was not something I planned, I saw enough to experience the Kokoda Trail and confirm my admiration for those soldiers exposed to such horrendous conditions during the war.

I met Alan at the airport on his arrival home from the Kokoda Trail (8.5kg lighter and with no intention of doing it again) and I am pleased to say after four weeks back he has now recovered, well almost.

My staff and I salute Alan’s great effort in completing the Kokoda Trail.

You never know when you or your staff might need the service of the Royal Flying Doctor Service when roaming and/or working in outback Queensland.

Norm Osmand.

Please recognise the effort of both Alan and the RFDS and donate to the RFDS through the College (official receipts given) or directly via www.flyingdoctor.org.au
