Who should attend:
This course is aimed at people who work, or wish to work, as a Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator at a workplace in accordance with the provisions of the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. If an employer in Queensland has wages in the Q-COMP nominated financial range or is in a high risk industry they must meet obligations, which include nominating a RRTWC.
Entry Requirements:
There are no specific entry requirements into this course. However, this qualification involves strong communication skills and the capacity to influence others positively. To complete the program successfully it is recommended that participants have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction for:
- Referencing and interpreting legislation and guidance material
- Referencing and interpreting policies and procedures
- Following work processes accurately
- Completing documentation and forms legibly and promptly in their normal work role
- Assisting persons involved with the workers' rehabilitation
Entry Requirements - Online Students:
As part of our ongoing commitment to Quality Assurance, All Participants wishing to undertake online studies with ACHS are required to complete a session with our Training Technician/Tutor in our Elluminate Virtual Office. (Elluminate is a free service - no additional fees payable)
The session will take place upon submission of the first assessment. To participate in this session, participants will need to have access to a webcam.
Participants who do not have access to a Webcam should contact the college to make alternate arrangements.

Course Outcomes:
This course is designed to provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to:
- Assist the employer to discharge legislative obligations as outlined in the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003, including any amendments and applying a working knowledge of this legislation
- Coordinate the development of a policy, procedures and appendices, to manage workplace rehabilitation at their own workplace
- Raise the awareness of other members of the workforce (supervisors, managers, workers) regarding workplace rehabilitation
- Communicate with workers, management, treating medical practitioners, workers compensation insurers' staff and other key persons' involved in the workplace rehabilitation process
- Identify the role of key persons involved in the rehabilitation process
- Coordinate the return to work of an injured worker recognising current workplace rehabilitation best practice guidelines
- Initiating early communication with an injured worker to clarify the nature and severity of the worker's injury and to compile initial notification information
- Identify the practical steps and administrative (paper work) procedures required following the injury of a worker and throughout their rehabilitation
- Developing the suitable duties program component of a rehabilitation and return to work plan if a plan is require in consultation with the worker and the worker's employer and ensuring the program is consistent with the current medical certificate or report for the worker's injury
- Establish a plan (or work with an external provider to establish a plan) which meets the needs of an injured worker
- Liaising with-
- Any person engaged by the employer to help in the worker's rehabilitation and return to work; and
- The insurer about the worker's progress and indicating as early as possible, if there is a need for the insurer to assist or intervene.
